# Choose a map and position stages

A map helps learners understand the route. It does not define the audience or passing rules.

These are teaching examples. Interactive practice affects only this page and does not send email, publish or submit learning results. Complete actual work in the product.

## 07 Check the map; keeping the default is fine

1. If the default map makes every stage clear, keep it and continue. A custom map is optional.
2. To change the background, select “Change map”, then choose an image under “Map template”.
3. Select “Save”. Review the background and node positions in the editor.

The map helps learners follow the route but does not change materials or clear rules. Choose an aspect ratio for the devices and number of nodes, not just to complete an extra step.

**What you should see**The editor shows the chosen map, and reopening settings confirms that selection.

When the result is different

If the map did not change, check whether you selected Save. If custom artwork is unavailable or upload failed, keep the default and complete the journey.

## Optional custom map: choose an aspect ratio, upload and save

1. After creating the draft, select Change map. Choose 3:4 or 16:9, then upload a JPG, PNG or WebP through the file control. Confirm the new map is selected and select Save. The old upload-area illustration is schematic; use the product’s file chooser.

Uploading does not apply the map to this journey. Choosing the aspect ratio first helps keep map and nodes readable.

**What you should see**The new map is visible in the editor and stages remain. Reopen settings to check the choice.

When the result is different

Check the file format and retry an upload error before adjusting nodes. An official template is a valid alternative; you do not need a new journey.

## 08 Keep nodes readable and wait for positions to save

1. Check that each node is visible and does not overlap another. A clear single-stage map needs no adjustment.
2. If needed, drag a node and release it, then wait for the editor to report that positions are saved.
3. If a position fails to save, use the editor’s retry action or discard the failed position change. Resolve pending positions before activation.

Position and learning sequence are separate settings. Learners must be able to read each node, and positions must finish saving before activation.

**What you should see**The header no longer reports pending or failed position saves. Reopening preserves positions and dragging has not changed stage numbers.

When the result is different

Use the editor’s retry or discard controls for failed position saves. Leaving the page does not confirm saving. Fix incorrect stage count or sequence in stage settings.
