# Choose the audience and deadline

Decide who must complete the training and when the clock starts before filling out settings. Audience settings determine real assignments.

## Before you start: materials, members and authoring permission

Sign in to the intended workspace. If you belong to multiple organizations, open your avatar menu, select the current organization name, then choose the training organization. The journey-management entry depends on permissions; ask an organization administrator if it is missing or you cannot create a journey.

### Set stage content

This guide takes your own material from draft to an assigned training journey: create, add content, activate, then check learner access. Prepare at least one published simulation or one PDF/video file. The three named simulations are examples, not built-in materials. One of your own materials is enough to complete the tutorial.

Missing interactive materials: create and publish them, then return to this journey. Draft simulations do not appear in the stage picker.

### Who should take it

The example uses one identity: New customer-service staff. For existing members, someone with member-management permission opens Members, selects or adds that identity in the member’s identity field, confirms the save and checks it again. Selecting an audience in a journey does not assign an identity to members. For new colleagues, include the identity in the invitation and confirm acceptance; sending an invitation is not membership.

The details, audience and cover diagrams below are parts of the same Create journey dialog. Fill the first two parts before submitting in the third. Map changes come after the draft is created.

These are teaching examples. Interactive practice affects only this page and does not send email, publish or submit learning results. Complete actual work in the product.

## 01 Open journey management and enter the details

1. Choose “Manage journeys” in the product navigation, then “Create journey”. The link above also opens the product in another tab so you can keep this guide open.
2. Enter “Customer service onboarding” in “Journey name”. In “Description (optional)”, describe the training goal; for example, practicing greetings, empathy, and complaint handling. Adapt these to your own materials.
3. Enter 30 in “Days after becoming eligible for this journey”. This is the example deadline; choose a different positive whole number if your training requires it.
4. Keep this dialog open. Set its audience next, before selecting “Create journey”.

The 30 days start when a learner becomes eligible for this journey, not necessarily when they join the organization. An unactivated journey does not start that clock early.

Enter the journey name, completion deadline and audience, then choose a cover.

**What you should see**The dialog contains the name, description and 30 days. No journey draft has been created yet.

When the result is different

The name is required and days must be a positive integer. If the button is unavailable, check these fields and the next audience step instead of creating duplicates.

## 02 Assign only the intended learners

1. Under “Who should take it”, choose “By role / identity”.
2. Select the identity already assigned to your intended learners. The example uses one identity, “New customer-service staff”; replace it with your organization’s actual identity.
3. Check the selected identity. If it is missing, ask a member administrator to assign the appropriate identity to the intended people first. Do not choose everyone just to proceed.
4. Leave the dialog open and continue to the cover and creation step.

Multiple identities include anyone matching at least one, not necessarily all. Choose the entire organization only for training everyone needs.

**What you should see**Only the intended identity appears. Check the actual affected-member list again during activation review.

When the result is different

Missing identities or unexpected members require a correction in Members. An unaccepted invitation is not membership. On an active journey, saving the audience takes effect without requiring existing learners to replay.

## 03 Choose an optional cover, then create the draft

1. Under “Journey cover”, choose a published simulation cover or use “Upload cover image” for a JPG, PNG, or WebP file. This is optional; you can leave it empty.
2. Check the name, 30-day deadline, and audience. Wait for any image upload to finish.
3. Select “Create journey”. Wait for the dialog to close and the journey map editor to open.

The cover identifies the journey; it does not add that simulation as a stage. Create the draft first, then add actual materials.

**What you should see**The map editor opens for Customer service onboarding with Draft status. Reopen Journey settings to check the saved details.

When the result is different

Resolve an upload or save error here and retry. Closing the dialog, selecting an image or seeing a preview does not prove creation succeeded.
